How to clean and maintain your AEG washer dryer
Resolution
Regular cleaning and maintenance of your AEG washer dryer will enhance its performance and prolong its lifespan. It will also keep your laundry fresh and prevent breakdowns.
Checklist of recommended cleaning and maintenance routines:
After each use
- Keep the door and detergent drawer open after every wash to allow air to circulate and avoid mildew build-up.
 - Clean the primary lint filter.

Once a month
Run a maintenance wash at a high temperature to keep your washer dryer and laundry fresh. If your appliance has the Machine Clean programme, run this one.
Every two months
- Clean the inside of the door and the lid seal to remove small objects that may end up there, as well as dirt and grease, which can build up with time.
 - Clean the detergent drawer to avoid blockages and unpleasant odours.

Every six months
- Clean the drain pump filter to avoid malfunction and maintain optimal appliance performance.
 - Descale your washer dryer to remove limescale and rust particles that may cause stains and unpleasant odours.

How to clean the fluff filters
There are two filters you need to clean regularly on your washer dryer. We recommend cleaning the primary fluff filter after each drying cycle, and the secondary when the indicator tells you by flashing. This will optimise drying performance and prevent excess energy consumption.
Note: Fluff filters are only present in AEG 9000 series washer dryers. If you have a different model, this cleaning process does not apply.
Cleaning the primary fluff filter
- Push the hook, located in the front above the detergent drawer.
 - Pull out the primary fluff filter.

3. Remove the fluff filter cover by pulling it upwards.
4. Remove the lint by using your hand or tower, or a vacuum cleaner.
5. Close the cover.
Cleaning the secondary fluff filter
If you’re also cleaning the secondary fluff filter, do so before putting the primary fluff filter back.
- Pull out the secondary fluff filter from the same socket as the primary fluff filter, located at the right inside the socket.

2. Remove the lint by hand, or using a vacuum cleaner.
3. Put back the secondary fluff filter.
4. Put back the primary fluff filter.
Run a maintenance cycle
Run a high-temperature cycle to keep your washer dryer and laundry fresh. We recommend doing this once a month. Selected washer dryers will remind you to do this.
1. Check that there’s no laundry in the washer dryer.
2. Add a small amount of powder detergent (optional) or special cleaner (recommended).
3. Run a cotton cycle at its highest temperature. Or, if your appliance has a maintenance cycle as the Machine Clean programme, run this one instead.
Clean the door and lid seal
Clean the inside of the door and the lid seal to remove small objects that may end up there, as well as dirt and grease that may build up with time. We recommend doing this every two months.
- Check the door seal for small objects like coins, buttons and hairpins, which may end up here.
 - Clean the inner and outer door seal with a soft, damp cloth. Make sure to use non-abrasive cloths and sponges to avoid scratching the sealing surface.

Clean the detergent drawer
Clean the detergent drawer to avoid blockages from dried detergent and unpleasant odours from build-up of mildew. We recommend doing this every two months.
- Check that there’s no laundry in the drum.
 - Remove the drawer. Check your user manual for detailed instructions on your model.
 - Remove the top part of the additive compartment, and clean it under running water.
 - Clean the drawer under running water. Using a small brush, such as a toothbrush, could be useful when cleaning the compartments.
 - Put the top part back into position.
 - Scrub the socket where the drawer usually is with a small brush.
 - Put the drawer back and close it.
 - Run the rinsing programme without any clothes in the drum.

Clean the drain pump filter
Clean the drain pump filter to keep your washer dryer fresh and avoid malfunction. We recommend doing this every six months.
Important: Never remove the filter when the machine is in use. Don't clean the pump if the water is hot; wait about three hours for the appliance to cool before proceeding after you have run a washing cycle.
- Turn off your washing machine and unplug it.
 - Open the pump lid (located at the lower right corner).

3. Place a shallow bowl or container below the drain. Keep a rag or towel nearby in case of spillage.
4. Turn the filter to the left, without removing it. Wait until the water stops running before.
5. Remove the filter and rinse it under a running tap. Remove any lint or objects from the filter recess.
6. Put the filter back and turn tightly to the right. Make sure that you tighten the filter correctly to prevent leakages.
7. Close the drain cover.
Descale
Descale your washer dryer to remove limescale and rust particles that may build up with time. This helps you avoid stains on your laundry and unpleasant odours. We recommend doing this every six months, or more regularly if the water in your area is hard or moderately hard.
- Check that there’s no laundry in the washer dryer.
 - Pour our recommended descaler Super Care into the empty washer dryer. Empty the entire sachet.
 - Run a 60°C programme without a pre-wash.

Tips and tricks
- Regularly check if the drum is clean and occasionally wipe it out with a soft sponge and dry it with a clean cloth. Do not use an abrasive stainless-steel cleaner or wire wool scouring pad, which may damage the surface.
 - Occasionally, clean the outside of the washer dryer with mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth – avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive scouring ads.
 - If your washer-dryer is placed next to your shower, bathtub, or washbasin, you’ll need to clean it more often to avoid corrosion.
