Damage to ceramic and induction hob glass - Impact damage and stress damage
- Both of these incidents are not covered by the warranty of the appliance. The glass on all our hobs is toughened glass and conforms to safety standards.
Impact damage - this is caused when an object has been either dropped onto the hob glass; or where a cooking vessel has been placed down too hard on the surface. The glass can 'snap' on the corners hob where pressure has been applied; or where they have been knocked.
What must you do:
- If the glass ceramic surface/glass surface is cracked, switch off the appliance and unplug it from the mains. In cases where the appliance is connected to the mains directly using a junction box, remove the fuse to disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
- Where the homeowner has household insurance coverage - you are advised to contact them due to the accidental nature of how the glass was cracked.
Stress damage - this is caused by the appliance being installed incorrectly. Where this has occurred, the instructions for the correct measurements have not been adhered to and the expansion when hot, has been restricted. This causes the appliance to crack across the glass. This can happen on the first time of use, or subsequent use. The consumer will need to contact their installer.
