Temperature in the fridge-freezer is too low

Issue

  • Cooling too much, too cold in the fridge
  • The temperature is too low in the fridge
  • The fridge is freezing, frost is forming inside

Applies to

  • Refrigerator
  • Fridge freezer

Resolution

1. Check the temperature within the fridge:

  • You will either have a dial temperature control or a digital control. A dial will be found within the fridge compartment, usually located close to the light. A digital control will be within the trim of the fridge.
  • Adjust the temperature by turning the temperature regulator or via the digital control panel.
    • Level 1 means the warmest level
    • Level 6-7 means the coldest level
    • Level 0 means turning the fridge off
  • If you have ice build-up on items within the fridge adjusting the temperature down should help with this issue.
  • Avoid putting warm food into the fridge before cooling it, this can affect the inside temperature and lead to temperature issues.

2. Make sure that no foodstuffs are touching the rear wall of the appliance.

  • Move any items which are touching the rear wall to prevent water or ice from forming on the shelf.
  • The back wall will freeze during refrigeration and the ice will turn to water during automatic defrosting.
  • If any items are touching the back wall during the defrosting process, the water will run onto the shelf instead of flowing down into the drainage channel.

3. Check the seal around the door for any damage or gaps

4. Check that nothing is caught in the door or causing a blockage.
