The washing machine door does not close properly
Issue
- The door of my washing machine does not close properly
- The washing machine door cannot close completely, so the programme does not start
Applies to
- Front-loading washing machine
Resolution
1. Make sure the appliance is properly level. Loosen or tighten the feet to adjust the level.
- Use a spirit level to check whether the washing machine is standing level on all its feet.
- The appliance must stand securely on a level, hard floor.
- The legs can be adjusted using a spanner.
- It is important that the appliance does not rock. Otherwise, it will vibrate during the spin cycle.
- Closing the door may be difficult if the washing machine is not level.
2. Make sure that the washing machine is not overloaded.
- If there are too many clothes in the washing machine (overload), the clothes may press so hard against the door that it cannot be fully closed.
- Remove some clothes from the drum, close the door and restart the programme.
3. Check whether any laundry is caught between the door seal and the door glass.
- If clothes get caught between the door seal and the glass, the door will not close properly and this can cause leaks.
4. New appliance - If the washing machine door opens by itself, hold it closed when shutting it until the lock engages. After a few wash cycles the problem should disappear. It is recommended to run at least once a Cotton cycle at the highest available temperature.
If the above did not solve the problem, we recommend that you book a repair.
Cause
- washing machine not levelled
- too many garments / overloading
- laundry caught between the door seal and door glass
- Faulty door lock – service visit recommended
- normal behaviour resulting from the fact that the appliance is new and some tension may occur, for example between the door seal and the glass.
