AEG washing machine care guide: Do's and Don’ts
Resolution
Regular cleaning and maintenance help keep your AEG washing machine running smoothly, extend its lifespan, and keep your laundry fresh. Follow these simple do's and don'ts to keep your machine performing at its best.
After every use
The do’s
- Do leave the door and detergent drawer open after every wash. This allows air to circulate, helping moisture dry out.
The don’ts
- Don’t close the door or detergent drawer immediately after use. Trapped moisture can lead to mould, mildew and unpleasant odours.
Monthly care
The do’s
- Do run a maintenance wash once a month. Empty the drum and select the Machine Clean programme or a cotton cycle at the highest available temperature. If your washing machine has automatic detergent and softener dosing (AutoDose), turn it off before running a maintenance wash.
- Do use a small amount of powder detergent or a recommended cleaner. Add it to the empty drum before starting the maintenance wash.
The don’ts
- Don’t leave clothes in the drum during a maintenance wash. Always run the cleaning cycle with an empty drum for effective cleaning.
Every 2 months
The do’s
- Do check and clean the door seal. Look for trapped coins, buttons, hairpins, dirt, and grease. Wipe the seal gently with a soft, damp cloth.
- Do clean the detergent drawer. Remove the drawer and the top part of the additive compartment, then rinse both under running water. Use a small toothbrush for hard-to-reach areas. Once reassembled, run a rinse programme with an empty drum to help prevent blockages and unpleasant odours.
- Do clean the drain pump filter. Unplug the machine, allow the water to cool, and place a towel or shallow bowl underneath before removing and rinsing the filter.
The don’ts
- Don’t use harsh abrasives on the door seal or drum. Wire wool, rough sponges, and abrasive cleaners can scratch or damage surfaces.
- Don’t remove the drain pump filter while the machine is running or the water is still hot. Wait at least 3 hours after a high-temperature wash before cleaning the filter.
- Don’t let detergent residue build up. Residue in the detergent drawer and its housing can cause blockages and unpleasant smells.
- Don't leave the drain pump filter loose. Tighten it securely after cleaning to help prevent water leaks.
Every 6 months
The do’s
- Do descale your washing machine every 6 months. This helps remove limescale and rust particles that can cause stains and unpleasant odours. Descale more often if you live in an area with hard or moderately hard water.
- Do use a recommended descaler, such as Super Care. Pour a full sachet into the empty washing machine drum before starting the descaling programme.
The don’ts
- Don't use a pre-wash cycle when descaling. Run a 60°C cotton programme without pre-wash for effective descaling.
Drum and exterior care
The do’s
- Do check and clean the drum regularly. Wipe it with a soft sponge, then dry it with a clean cloth.
- Do clean the outside of your washing machine occasionally. Use a soft cloth, warm water and mild soap to wipe down the exterior.
- Do clean the exterior more frequently in damp areas. If your washing machine is installed near a shower, bath or washbasin, clean it more often to help prevent corrosion.
The don’ts
- Don’t use abrasive cleaners or wire wool on the drum. These can scratch or damage the drum surface.
- Don’t use harsh chemicals or abrasive scouring pads on the exterior. These can damage the finish of your washing machine.
A little regular maintenance goes a long way. Keep your washing machine clean and fresh with the right cleaning products.
